Hello, I'm Douglas Erdman and I am seeking your support and vote for the South Coast Water District Board of Directors.

Water is a scarce resource.

The current drought is evidence we cannot take water for granted.

I’m a registered Civil Engineer and former Director of SCWD.

SCWD’s Mission is to provide water resources essential for sustaining life. The importance of water supplies can be quantified by four characteristics: quality, quantity, reliability, and cost. I’ll work to ensure that SCWD considers these four fundamental characteristics in the pursuit of its mission.

SCWD working on several very big upcoming projects, the Doheny Desalinization Plan, the South Laguna Sewer tunnel, and the Capistrano Beach Boat Storage yard.  All of these projects will require a significant investment by SCWD, and that will directly impact your water bill. Some of these projects do not relate directly to SCWD’s mission, such as the boat storage yard in Capistrano Beach.I’ll make sure that SCWD focuses on maintaining their infrastructure and delivering quality, cost effective water & sewer services, not working on projects outside of the district’s mission.

I want SCWD to be an effective, efficient and reliable water/wastewater utility that listens to what customers want. That means a clear and straightforward focus on water and wastewater issues with particular attention to local partnership opportunities. District rates are on the rise and I’m concerned about the District’s current capital project list that seems bigger than this community needs or can afford. I will use my local knowledge and engineering problem solving skills to guide the District to practices and policies that make sense, provide reliability and keep rates in check.

The SCWD vision is:
Water is our focus and our focus is our strength.

If elected, I will help to keep SCWD focused on water & wastewater issues with an eye toward providing reliable services to the residents in a financially responsible manner. Thank you for your consideration.

Eleected officials must spend public money conservatively, wisely in keeping with "Fixed" income from rates. No fee increases in rates for COLA increases.

No new taxes or fees or assessments; operate the Water District like a business.

Profession:Retired project manager
Retired project manager, Southern California Edison (19932013)

I was born in Chicago and moved to southern California as a young lad. I raised three wonderful children in Alta Loma and was involved with them as a scout leader and sports coach. Now I have the pleasure of watching my four grandchildren learn and grow.

With a desire to become involved in the Dana Point community, I have found a match in the water district. My background in the utlility business has prepared me to serve as a director for SCWD.

I believe in supporting local business and that government can often get in the way of their success. I want a strong nation respected around the world for our leadership and appreciated for our generosity.
