Funding to Schools

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?

Answer from Bert R. Weldon:

Local Town Hall Meetings, informational articles in our local newspaper, informational postings on the SUSD website, AND also posting all budget appropriations, expeditures and measurement mechanism outcomes.

Funding to Schools

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?

Answer from Connie Kee Schlaefer:

We continue to work to make the local control funding formula understandable to the staff, parents, and community through community meetings, surveys, and newspaper columns.  Each year, a series of meetings are held in different forums in the community to review outcomes from the previous year.  We are getting better every year, but there is room for improvement in communicating in different ways.  It remains a hard topic to distill in an easily digested way, and we need to keep working at it!
